How many kinds of ancient Greek are there to learn? What kind did Socrates or Plato write?
I know there are Homeric, Attic, but what other types oh yes, there is Koiné spoke Greek or trade used by the authors of the Gospels and Paul in his books and letters. What other types of Greek are there that are considered old? Is there any medieval or Byzantine Greek?

The attempt was politically motivated, that the government was trying to capitalize on the cultural heritage of ancient Greece and the sympathy of many Western intellectuals of the time were fighting for Greek Independence (such as Lord Byron). The attempt led to a whole language war and the creation of literary factions: the Dhimotikistés (Δημοτικιστές) who supported the county (demotic) dialect, and Lóyii (Λόγιοι) or Katharevusyáni (Καθαρευουσιάνοι) who supported the "dialect purified." Up to this point, the use of Dhimotikí in state affairs has been generally frowned upon. The doctrine of State said that the use of Katharevusa exaggerated the idea that there was a linear sequence of words and thought of the ancient Greeks, all the way from Pericles in ancient Athens to modern day Athens. The use of dialect demotic in the state discourse and paperwork has been banned.
