Could a childhood accident have triggered this depression?
When I was 4 years a old, a 10 - 15 pound glass jar/vase fell onto my head, from atop of the fridge. I opened the door too fast and it tipped over.... I just remember that ever since I was rushed into the Emergencry Room that night, I was never the same.
I felt isolated more by my siblings who are much older than me. I used to hide and cry in the closet in the hallway because there was nothing for me to do alone at home. When everyone else was at school or work, my dad stayed home sleeping (he works at night), and I watched TV or played with my sister's old Barbies alone.
The point is, I have been this way for a long time but I can't help but think that if that accident never happened, I wouldn't be so f***ed up emotionally.
I'm 16 now, but it became a serious problem several years ago
When something traumatic happens to any child, especially between the ages 1-6, it can be a life-altering experience for sure. My Polio at age 5 certainly changed me emotionally.
Being hit in your head could have consequences too. They are just now beginning to see what blows to the head can do to football players over the long haul.
A head injury is no small thing. But let's assume it did no physical damage. What it did emotionally to you is your own unique experience. And the whole thing may have left you with feelings of fear that you never had before. They could present as depression, or panic attacks or just generalized anxiety. These emotional states can isolate you from everyone.
What I do is this: When I feel anxious, I go immediately to do something I really enjoy (In my case, drawing and making miniatures). If it is when I am in bed, I remind myself of how many times I have overcome some bad situations and come out ok. And also I start counting and naming my blessings. By the time I've finished, I see how really blessed I am and that my fears were just small parts of me.Keep a journal of your fears and feelings for 2 weeks. Then re-read it.
If you feel you don't have the tools to rebuild your emotions, then seek counseling to get those tools. I did and it helped me tremendously. Each of us is soo much more magnificent and important that we ever realize.
