Oval Baker

Is there a way for people to find out what type of fossil they have?

My mother found what appears to be a partial bone and some eggs all fossilized. We live in Oklahoma but she doesn't want to tell anyone where she found them. She fears they will tear up the land. She found them near the ground surface and all grouped together. Some are large like bakers potatoes. Others are more oval shaped. She also found a reddish brown fossil that reminded me of a turtle because of the impressions on it but it is more the shape of a crab without legs. If anyone is interested in helping determine what they are I can send photos.
I will try to take some photos and post them tomorrow. I will more than likely contact the University also. This field of study is so interesting. I think mom would be happy no matter what they are, just for the sheer joy of finding something so old and interesting.

I would contact the nearest university and talk to a paleontologist about your discovery. I'm a geologist and may be able to lend some assistance, however a local geologist will know the age of the rock in your area and that will help narrow the possibilities as to what you have. Additionally, many folks think they have something of value and it turns out not to be the case, so prepare yourself just in case its not what you think it is. Oh and as far as tearing up the location, this is why I suggest contacting a geologist who specializes in paleontology. Scientists work very methodically and slowly, everything is recorded as it sits naturally and when the time comes to excavate, it is done with great care not to damage the specimen.
