My husband and I have completely different ideas for paint colors in the kitchen!?

We are remodeling and have hit a snag. I found the perfect retro blue-green for the walls in our old 1940s kitchen-- even bought a sample can to paint a large swatch on the wall to show him how great it will look! And it really pops with the old white cabinets! His tastes, however, are completely different. He wants a more modern neutral wall and dark red cabinets. Our kitchen faces south west and can get quite warm in the summer, so I thought cooler colors would work better. He is very stubborn and picky about things like this-- and honestly sometimes I wish he was the kind of man who could care less about decorating! Ok, so I know I can't change HIM-- so how in the world do we reach a compromise? I've even offered to let him choose the colors for the next room/project, but he seems unwilling to budge. Help!

After 30 years of marriage I believe your only answer is to compromise. I would say go neutral on walls and cabinets and accessorize in both modern with 40's too. You can mix styles well. Sometimes turning a 40's kitchen into a modern one will look odd because the style is already there and it doesn't look right. If you are completely taking everything out that's different. The only answer here is to pick new colors to please you both, there is always something that you can use to do this. Go a different direction. Good Luck!
